DAY 2 - Ps Matt Laidler

Hi Church.

It's pastor Matt here, I want to share with you a devotion today to help you get into the zone for our 14 Days of Devotion. From scripture from First Kings chapter 19, just a couple of verses that says this in verse 11;

"The Lord said, go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord. And for the Lord is about to pass by, then a great and powerful wind tore the mountain apart, and shatter the rocks before the Lord. But the Lord was not in the wind. But after the wind, there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake, and after the earthquake came of fire, but the Lord was not in the fire."

You see, these things are great and powerful things, they're distractions that would capture anyone's attention if they were in that zone, if they were in that place, that when they broke the rocks apart, that would turn my head I'm sure if that happened off to my side. You know, the earthquake and the fire, they stop us in our tracks, they take your attention. But this word is saying that those things that distractions, the Lord was not in those in those big and powerful things. But the Lord, it says in verse 12, and after the fire, came a gentle whisper. And with Elijah heard it, he poured his cloak over his face, went out and stood at the mouth of the cave, and the Lord spoke to him there.

Can I encourage you church in this season of 14 Days of Devotion, to put aside the distractions? There are so many distractions in our world, we've got the distractions of the newsfeed or the distractions of social media, we've got distractions of what's going on in our family life or what's going on in other things, we've got distractions of the devices that are in our hands, that we constantly turn to, but can I encourage you in this time of 14 Days of Devotion, lock in to listen to the gentle whisper of the Lord. You see devotion, to being devoted to God, is all about listening to God's voice, and obeying His commands. And we can't do that if we allow the distraction to be the loudest voice in our world. We got to put the distraction aside, we got to turn off our phones, we got to switch them off and put them aside, we got to turn off the TV, we've got to turn off the devices that drag our attention towards the wrong thing because the Lord's not in them.

The Lord is wanting to speak to us today in the gentle whisper to our hearts and so I encourage you, church, let's get devoted. Let's lock in time today, find a quiet space and that means going for a walk in the bush then go for a walk if that means you know shutting your bedroom door and getting into the place with God do that. Whatever it is for you. Create a space where you're not distracted and you can lock in to listen to the voice of God for you today.

God bless you church.
