James 5:16b-17 ...The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results. Elijah was a human being, even as we are. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops.(NLT)
I love the fact James points out that Elijah “was a human just like us”. He wants us to know that like him, we can pray powerful prayers. Ordinary everyday humans, can produce extraordinary results when they turn to God in prayer.
Prayer is the great equalizer. Anyone can do it, at anytime. You don't need money to start it and it doesn't require great talent. You don't need a special qualification for it to be effective. You just need a willing heart that's humble enough to recognise that we need God's activity in our lives.
We all see things around us that need to change. These things are not opportunities to lament the way things are, but rather, invitations to pray. They are promptings to participate in the process of bringing heaven to earth.
